Winner of the Men’s Singles title at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games as well as being a vital member of the Korean Team who won bronze four years later in Beijing and silver in 2012 in London; Ryu Seungmin has been named as one of the “Mayors” for the athletes’ villages at the forthcoming Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games.

Completed last month, Ryu Seungmin will manage the Pyeongchang Olympic Village; the campus will accommodate athletes competing in snow events taking place in the Pyeongchang Mountain Cluster as well as in Pyeongchang and Jeongseon, some 20 kilometres distant.
Elected at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Ryu Seungmin is the only current member of the International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission from the Korea Republic and only the second ever from the country to be a member.
He follows Moon Daesung, who also won gold in Athens when succeeding in Taekwando, he won the heavyweight division. He was elected to the International Olympic Committee at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics will take place from Friday 9th February to Sunday 25th February, the Winter Paralympic Games from Thursday 8th March to Sunday 18th March.
