You are partly correct.

In fact, Zhang is a losser and champion at the same time.
On one hand, he was defened in 0:3 so that he was a losser.
On the other hand, China Team won 3:1 so that he was a champinion.

Therefore, his feeling is very complicated at the time becasue he became the champinion at time he lost, but his team members won.

第一張相, 如果唔睇樣, 仲以為張繼科係德國隊.   不過中國乒乓球的要求真係高, 除了要中國隊嬴之外, 仲要全勝, 最好一局不失.

It is not so simple.

If Ma Leong is lost in the 4th match, then it would become China 2:2 Germany.
The final game is Zheung vs. Boll.   
If Zheung's pefromance is same as the 2nd match, then Boll have a great chance to win. That is, China would lose the champinion.

That is the reason that the whole China team (except Zheung) were so nervous, as shown in Photo 1.
